We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Think Books Project, which works to distribute free, guided reading books illustrated by your favorite artists. The Think Books Project is the result of a joint effort between children’s book illustrators, Burkins and Yaris, Literacyhead, and Literacy Builders. The first set of Think Books is illustrated by Steve Jenkins! You can see them all on the Think Books Page!
For each participating artist, there will be at least 5 guided reading books ranging from level A-ish to level E-ish. Each of the five, guided reading books will carry the same “Think Theme,” which we pull from a set of six books by the illustrator. For example, the “Think Theme” for the Steve Jenkins Think Books compares animals and people.
The intent of the Think Books Project is for parents and teachers to read the illustrator’s picture books aloud to children to build background knowledge, and then to extend the read aloud by using the Think Books in the shared, guided, and independent reading experiences of very-beginning readers.
Each Think Book is available free as a flipbook. The flipbooks do not require flash and work on tablets, iPads, Kindles, etc. In addition, there is a PDF version for each flipbook, and we invite you to print, copy, and distribute them widely!
The Think Books Project seeks 1) to help people fall in love with great picture books, 2) to lift the level of illustration in books for very-beginning readers, 3) to increase the thinking opportunities of very-beginning readers by connecting their texts to great picture books, and 4) to encourage teachers and parents to read picture books aloud to children A LOT.
By purchasing the picture books illustrated by artists participating in the Think Books Project, you help us continue to offer high-quality, free, guided reading books for very-beginning readers. Please support Steve Jenkins!
Our Think Books featuring the illustrations of Jon J Muth should be available here in a week or so!
